Step into the pocket-sized world of F1® — where future innovators take on the challenge.
Welcome to the STEM RACING!
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
STEM Racing is an immersive STEM education programme in which young people aged 6 to 19 work in teams to design and manufacture miniature racing cars inspired by F1®. Participants can join through school clubs and community organisations, as well as independently formed teams made up of students from different schools and age groups. We are committed to supporting their journey as they work together, grow through the experience, and aim for the world stage.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
It is a practical, interdisciplinary approach to learning in which students identify challenges, develop ideas, create, test and improve their solutions.
TARGET AGES & CATEGORIES
The programme is open to a wide range of participants aged 6 to 19.
Categories are designed to suit different ages, levels of experience and technical ability, enabling participants to progress step by step—from their first experience of making and designing to advanced engineering challenges.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Participants gain practical experience in STEM fields, including aerodynamics, design and manufacturing.
They also develop real-world business skills in areas such as marketing, project management and presentation.
Through teamwork, participants build leadership and communication skills, while learning how to identify challenges, test solutions and continuously improve.
STEM RACING AROUND THE WORLD
STEM Racing, formerly known as F1® in Schools, is an international STEM education programme supported by Formula 1 for young people aged 6 to 19.
To date, the programme has reached more than 65 countries, 29,000 schools and 1.8 million students worldwide, with female participants accounting for approximately 35%.
Students design and manufacture their own miniature racing cars and compete on the track while developing practical skills in engineering, teamwork, project management, marketing and presentation.
By using motorsport as a gateway to STEM, the programme inspires students to explore future opportunities across a wide range of fields, including automotive, aviation, aerospace, manufacturing and technology.
STEM Racing Japan brings this global learning opportunity to the next generation in Japan, developing the ability to identify and solve challenges, create innovation and continue striving towards ambitious goals.

Ayao Komatsu, TGR Haas F1 Team Principal

“It’s a real privilege for me to be appointed as a STEM Racing Ambassador in Japan. The opportunity to bring STEM subjects to students and engage with them in a way that’s truly inspiring through a project like STEM Racing is something I’m genuinely passionate about. I really wish there had been an initiative like this that I could have been involved with when I was growing up in Japan.”
“As someone who then moved to Europe and pursued a dream to become an engineer and work in Formula 1, I’m grateful to have an opportunity like this where I can give back to the next generation by sharing my experiences and supporting their own STEM ambitions."
